Garmin Instinct 3 battery life: every mode, every size, and what 'unlimited' assumes
Garmin publishes two tables, one for the Solar and one for the AMOLED, in the owner's manuals. Here they are in full, with the 50,000-lux footnote explained and the settings that move the numbers.

Instinct 3 Solar: the full table

The solar column for watch modes assumes all-day wear with three hours a day outside at 50,000 lux; the GPS columns assume 50,000-lux conditions during the activity, with typical SatIQ use for the multi-band row. The 50mm doubles the 45mm on solar GPS hours because the lens area is larger; the non-solar gap is smaller (60 vs 40 hours), which is the cell size.

No solar column exists for the AMOLED. Always-on cuts the smartwatch figure by roughly two-thirds, which is the single most expensive setting on any Garmin.
What "unlimited" assumes
Settings that move the numbers
- Satellite mode. GPS-only to multi-band costs a third to nearly half of GPS hours. SatIQ switches automatically; leave it on.
- Expedition mode. Low-rate GPS for multi-day trips: 60 days on the 50mm Solar, unlimited with solar.
- Backlight and flashlight. Frequent use of either shortens every row; Garmin does not quantify by how much.
- Pulse Ox and continuous heart rate. Garmin's manual notes actual battery life depends on features enabled, including wrist-based heart rate and phone notifications; turning off Pulse Ox is the usual first step.
- Battery saver watch mode. 100 days on the 50mm Solar without solar, for when the watch is a watch.

Garmin rates the Solar models unlimited in smartwatch, battery-saver, max-battery GPS and expedition modes, assuming all-day wear with three hours a day at 50,000 lux. Without that sun, the 50mm is rated 40 days in smartwatch mode.
How long does the Instinct 3 last in GPS mode?
50mm Solar: 60 hours GPS-only, 260 with solar. 45mm Solar: 40 hours, 130 with solar. 50mm AMOLED: 40 hours. 45mm AMOLED: 32 hours.
Does the Instinct 3 AMOLED have solar?
No. Garmin's AMOLED table has no solar column, and the release lists solar charging only for the Solar models.
